Terms of Service
Please read these terms carefully before using OpenFormatter. By using the Service you agree to be bound by them.
Use OpenFormatter for legitimate development work. Don't abuse the platform or others' data. Core tools are free and always will be. You own your data — we never store it.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using OpenFormatter ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please discontinue use of the Service immediately.
These terms apply to all visitors, users, and anyone who accesses the Service. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time, with changes effective upon posting.
2. Description of Service
OpenFormatter provides free, browser-based developer tools for formatting, validating, converting, and encoding data structures including JSON, XML, YAML, HTML, CSS, SQL, and other formats.
Core formatting functionality is performed 100% client-side within your browser. No input data is transmitted to or stored on our servers. Certain optional features (account creation, saved preferences) require an account and involve server-side processing as described in our Privacy Policy.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not: - Use the Service to process data you do not have the legal right to access or share - Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features - Use automated scripts or bots to make excessive requests that degrade service performance - Reproduce, sell, or resell any part of the Service without prior written permission - Use the Service to distribute malware, phishing content, or any other harmful material
4. Intellectual Property
All content, trademarks, logos, and code comprising the OpenFormatter platform are the property of OpenFormatter or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Open-source components used within the Service remain subject to their respective licenses. The tools themselves and the interfaces through which they are presented are proprietary to OpenFormatter.
5. User Accounts
If you create an account, you are responsible for: - Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials - All activities that occur under your account - Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that have been inactive for more than 24 months.
6. Paid Subscriptions
Certain features of the Service are available through paid Pro subscriptions, billed via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges.
Subscriptions may be cancelled at any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — no refunds are issued for partial periods. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that results obtained from use of the Service will be accurate or reliable. You use the Service at your own risk.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OpenFormatter shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or $10 USD if you have not made any payments).
9. Privacy
Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated herein by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in that policy.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration, except where prohibited by law.
11. Changes to Terms
We may revise these Terms at any time. For material changes, we will provide at least 14 days' notice to registered users via email. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
